As Noel had pointed out Excel format has only line styles and there is no option to change thickness except through the line style. So while exporting to "xls", single line of thickness between .20 and 1.5 may have to be saved as Normal Line, between 1.5 and 2.5 may have to be saved as Thick Line and between 2.5 and 3.5 may have to be saved as still Thicker Line.
