Note that according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological
Association (5th ed., section 5.11), an en dash can also occur between words of
equal weight in a compound adjective (e.g., "Chicago--London flight", here two
hyphens are used for an en dash). So, even in English there may sometimes be a
need for a straightforward way to insert an en dash rather than em dash between
words.
