          Priority: medium
            Bug ID: 72449
          Assignee: [email protected]
Summary: BASIC: Font Preview is painfully slow, occasionally
                    times out/crashes
          Severity: normal
    Classification: Unclassified
                OS: Windows (All)
          Reporter: [email protected]
          Hardware: Other
        Whiteboard: BSA
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: 4.1.3.2 release
         Component: BASIC
           Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:

This seems to be new in either 4.x or Windows 8. 3.x on Win7 did not have this
problem.

With font preview enabled in the font Tools->Options->View settings, the font
previews are very slow when many fonts are installed. Occasionally the list
will hang and eventually just close without allowing a font to be selected.

It seems the fonts are re-read each time the list drop-down is selected the
font preview is generated over again each time which would explain why it can
be painfully slow, but I'm not sure why it hangs and eventually just closes
unless perhaps the menu timer is shorter than the preview.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install a lot of fonts.
2. Select some text in a document.
3. Click the drop down next to the font list, grab the scroll block and start
scrolling.

Current behavior:
The rendering is slow, stalls and starts. Occasionally gives up altogether and
the drop-down closes with no font selected.

Expected behavior:
A scrollable list of fonts!

Operating System: Windows 8
Version: 4.1.3.2 release
