They look completely different. Maybe, it you are not reproducing the bug properly. They are not centered at the data points at all. They only appear on the proper X coordinate, but on the bottom and the point of them is to be representing the data point itself graphically. Otherwise, if I wanted a half measure for the standard deviation, I would have used the function to get the value.
