Sample Mail Merge output where page-breaks can not be bulk-removed
In Writer, you can remove the "page break" setting from all paragraphs which
have it by selecting all (^A) and then Format->Paragraphs. The "Break"
checkbox will be red if some but not all of the paragraphs have it set.
Clearing the box removes page-breaks from every selected paragraph which had
it.
But this does not work for page breaks inserted by Mail Merge. Something about
those page breaks makes them immune to being changed during a multi-paragraph
format change; in fact,
the paragraph formatter seems to be unaware that they exist because the Break
check-box is not red when formatting multiple paragraphs. You can remove the
breaks one paragraph at a time, however. So those MM-generated breaks are not
completely bogus.
This is a problem for users because Mail Merge does not offer the option of not
inserting page breaks, so the only work-around for generating continuous output
(not one page per record) is to manually remove the the MM-produced page breaks
from the generated .odt file. It is impractical to remove the breaks one
paragraph at a time.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. First, open the attached "test_manuallycreated.odt". Select all (^A),
Format->Paragraph->Text Flow, and notice that the "Break" checkbox is red.
Check it and apply, repeat and un-check it. All paragraphs are affected. This
is how it should be.
2. Now open "test_mmoutput.odt" which has a similar structure, but the
page-breaks came from Mail Merge. Select all (^A) and Format->Paragraph->Text
Flow, and the "Break" checkbox is white (should be red), and there is no
sequence of operations which removes all the MM-generated page breaks, except
to edit the format of each paragraph separately, one at a time (which is
impractical with many data records).
EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: When editing Paragraph formats for multiple paragraphs
simultaneously, page-breaks inserted by Mail Merge should behave just like
manually-inserted page breaks, i.e., they should be recognized by the Para.
format editor in multi-paragraph mode.
