          Priority: medium
            Bug ID: 74348
          Assignee: [email protected]
Summary: integrate DMaths extension and improve current formula
                    editor
          Severity: enhancement
    Classification: Unclassified
                OS: All
          Reporter: [email protected]
          Hardware: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: 4.2.0.4 release
         Component: Formula Editor
           Product: LibreOffice

Currently LibreOffice Math lacks of ability to fast enter formulas, especially
complex ones.

For example - math teachers need to enter a lot of formulas (also complex ones)
quickly and often. Currently with Math formula editor it is too time consuming.

This is already tested and a lot of math teachers confirms that. In the name of
all math teachers I am writing current ideas.

But there is an extension named DMaths, which makes formula entering much
faster if to learn some simple principles and shortcut keys. Even stereometric
figures can be entered easily.

I propose at first include DMaths as extension and then as soon as possible to
embed it into LibreOffice like PDF Import extension.

Somehow also updating should be solved - new DMaths releases are coming out
more often than LibreOffice itself. As I see currently at Debian/Ubuntu
repository - PDF Import is still separately upgradable even it is natural part
of LibreOffice itself - same way could be also DMaths.
For Windows and other operating system users, which does not support such
software updating system like in Linux - there could be an update through
LibreOffice built-in updating system.

Another improvement for current formula editor - please make possible to move
between fields with arrow keys, TAB, Enter forwards and arrow keys, SHIFT+TAB
backwards. Currently when entering formula, Math activates the code window and
most people do not know the code. I propose to activate the formula box itself
at first and then move with previously mentioned keys. This could also increase
formula entering speed

What about proposing when typing? I mean - when to type e.g. fraction it will
offer it at small local menu and then I can choose by arrow keys the right one
and after pressing Enter it will do that.
This proposing should happen both in code window and also view area when
allowing to type there as I proposed.
Most popular programming and coding applications does that.

What about allowing typing at formula view area? I would be much more
understandable than editing in code window. This code window should definitely
stay for advanced users but allowing type formula also at view area would be
visually more understandable.

Also there is one point to integrate DMaths - when use pseudocode it should
automatically work. I mean if to type a^2 it should write a² when entering next
character or space and so one. Or if there are more than one activity - it
should offer same pull-down menu like code guessing when typing programming
commands.

DMaths itself works also without running formula editor but DMaths should work
also inside formula editor - using previously described pseudocode but also
those shortcut keys, what DMaths users already know. So - regardless where I am
- inside or outside formula editor - DMaths should work. I understand if
drawing figures will not work inside formula editor but at least entering
formulas should work that easy way like DMaths does.
