Hi Naryanaras,
First of all, the problems you describe are not within the scope of this bug
report, which is about border line colour and border line thickness. It would
be better to open a new bugreport for your problem.

I had a look at your problem anyway:
With respect to your bugs ( both #1 and #2): did you select the contents of the
cell B5 or the entire cell B5 (when selecting, is the highlighted area inside
the borders or really filling the cell)? When you want to select one -entire-
cell, I find it best to select 2 cells (e.g. B5 and C5) and then go back to 1
cell (B5). Setting the background colour for one -entire- cell works fine with
me (version 4.2.0.4)

I have closed this bug again. Should you wish to open a new bug report for your
problem I suggest you label the second 'importance' key as enhancement. The
behaviour is not fully intuitive, you are quite right there. You can refer to
this bug if you want to (See Also: Add).
