Hi.  What you have here isn't a bug.  If you take a good look at your "ghost"
diagram you'll discover you've attached its text anchor to the paragraph inside
your page header.  Since the header repeats on every page, so does the diagram.
 Turn the header off in the page properties and you'll see the diagram vanish
with it.

Actually I consider this a pretty powerful feature and intentionally use it
with some of my page styles to have different images appear in the background
of certain sections, chapters, facing pages, etc.

However, your document does load and save very, very slowly on my system, and
I'm not sure why it corrupts on you when you modify it. It saves fine for me.
