Bug #: 45565
Summary: loop dialog error on open of .docx file renamed .doc
Classification: Unclassified
Product: LibreOffice
Version: LibO 3.5.0 RC2
Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: NEW
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
There is a dialog bug when Writer tries to open a .docx file that mistakenly
had been renamed to .doc. When such a file is doubleclicked LO displays a first
window that informs the user that the file is corrupt. The user is also
prompted to click yes or no for repair.
Clicking "no" displays a second window with the text "The file 'a.doc' could
not be repaired and therefore cannot be opened.". A click on "ok" brings back
the first window. Clicking the close window button on either window causes the
other window to appear again.
Clicking "yes" (accepting a repair action) in the first window displays a third
window with the text "Read-Error. error reading file.". Clicking "ok" ends the
windows.
Suggested actions:
- let the close window button abort the attempts to open the file completely
and display no more windows.
- consider clarifying the dialog texts. In the first dialog window it is
unclear to the user if the action triggerred by a "no" click is "don't repair
and abort opening" or "don't repair and try to open the file anyway".
Steps to reproduce the bug
1. download this sample file
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg08758/libreOffice.docx
(The first match for the google search "filetype:docx libreoffice" )
2. rename it to filetype .doc
3. doubleclick the file.
