I recently upgraded my Ubuntu installation to 14.04 (from 12.04).
Under 12.04, I was running LibreOffice 4.1 which worked fine for accessing my
password protected Excel and Word documents. After the upgrade to 14.04 which
included LibreOffice 4.2.3 these documents didn't prompt for a password - they
just opened as nonsensical characters.
I thought it might be an Ubuntu issue so tried installing LibreOffice 4.1.5
from the website and this restored my functionality for opening my MS
documents.
Thought I'd raise this in case it's a LibreOffice issue.
