I have the very same experience. LibreOffice won't shut down sometimes properly 
at least, if it has had some Calc document open. It does not matter, whether
you first save the document first or choose "Quite" from menu, and LO asks, 
whether I want to save the document. It happen with different documents, but
apparently most often with a large calc documents, that contain several sheets.

When I try to shut down LO normally, I see the normal busy wheel on screen, 
nothing happens, and after about one minute I get the normal Finder message, 
that
the program LO is not responding.

This has happened constantly on LO 3.4.4 and now on LO 3.4.5 for PPC, ui 
Finnish. It does not help, if I delete LO and all it's prefs and components on 
Library
and reinstall LO again.

When I open the any my Calc documents on OOo 3.3, there is no problems with 
shutting down.
