I think your assessment is based on a misunderstanding. The Character dialog
you refer to is not the same as the Paragraph Style dialog I mentioned.
However, I didn't make it very clear in my original post on how to open the
dialog.

Here are two ways I commonly use to get there:

* Select some text in the paragraph you are interested in, then right click and
select "Edit Paragraph Style..."
* Alternatively: Open the "Styles and Formatting" pane (F11 or Format > Styles
and Formatting), then right click on the respective paragraph style and choose
"Modify..."

I was able to reproduce this bug on a different machine running LibreOffice
4.2.4.2 on Windows.
