Does it need to be complex formulas that crash it? No. The crashes occur only on spreadsheets with many complex formulas. They occur *only* immediately after hitting enter on a formula: the formula being entered does not have to be complex. The spreadsheet can be recovered. After recovery, re-entering the same formula that caused the crash does *not* cause a crash. A crash will recur only after working on the spreadsheet for some time after recovery. The hardware on the machine exhibiting this bug is unreliable (it refuses often to reboot). I now have a Windows 8.1 machine. I have seen this bug on the Windows 8.1 machine, but it is much rarer.
