Priority: medium
Bug ID: 80572
Assignee: [email protected]
Summary: VIEWING: Umlauts in standard.dic file can't be read by
the app that put them there?
Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
Reporter: [email protected]
Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Version: 4.2.5.2 release
Component: Writer
Product: LibreOffice
Problem description:
I backup the standard.dic file (since it occasionally disappears and is
replaced by a blank empty document - but that's another story/bug). The odd
thing is that using Notepad (vanilla Win8.1) I'm able to read umlaut characters
fine, but not in the latest version of Writer. Sections of standard.dic looks
like this in Writer:
Aragon
Aragón
Arash
...
Autodromo
Automotodróm
Autosport
...
Niccolò
Nürburgring
Orechová
Potôň
The FUNCTION of the spellcheck is flawless (other than the occasional file
disappearance.)
This is only a problem for me because I manually reconcile standard.dic files
across various machines. Nominally, I'll just open the various standard.dic
files on my main machine in Writer, and then quickly scroll down and
right-click-add any underlined new words – and then redistribute the master
standard.dic file back out – but as you can see, this does not work because
writer re-interprets the umlaut words added via another font or something.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Right-click and add an umlaut word to standard.dic (e.g. Nürburgring) on
Windows 7/8 machine.
2. Go to C:\Users\John_Doe\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\wordbook
3. Open the standard.dic file using Notepad.exe and see the umlauts.
4. Open the standard.dic file using Writer and see the umlauts corrupted
somehow (per above examples.)
Current behavior: is as described
Expected behavior: is to be able to see umlaut characters in standard.dic via
Writer, the app that put them there.
Thanks for your time reading this. Thank you for all your hard work!
Operating System: Windows 8
Version: 4.2.5.2 release
