I attach a prototype patch that adds a single item text search cache - to avoid calling ICU endlessly for the same strings; I see a huge number of repeated back-to-back string matching ~and this (I guess) should speed that up. Whether that is in the right place or not is unclear to me - I'd love input from Eike - and the patch is unfinished; need to cleanup the ScQueryEntry struct to make this cleaner. Also - of course it is to some degree dependent on the data as to whether that is at all useful.
