It reduces complexity. If we know that an OpenGL context and a corresponding window are always available we can avoid quite some of the lifecycle pain around OpenGL and vcl Windows. We can of course go back to trying to understand all the different lifecycles and debug horrible corner cases for weeks. I hope that with Tamas' work we are able to move a step closer to a better lifecycle handling but in general it looks like we currently live better if we always initialize OpenGL together with the window.
