It seems that LibreOffice 4.2.5 has a severe issue with handling of EPS files.
The rendering quality of (some) EPS graphics in LibreOffice 4.2.x has
dramatically deteriorated over the 4.1.x line, making it unusable for
publications.

The problem exists in on-screen rendering in LO, in printing and PDF export.
While the quality on 4.1.x was perfect, the quality of EPS in LO 4.2.5 looks on
screen like a bad scan of a newspaper. Please have a look at attached
screenshot showing on the left side the quality of the same EPS graphic in
LibreOffice 4.2.5 and on the right side in LO 4.1.4. Quality has deteriorated a
lot!

Please also find attached a sample .eps file. If you insert it in a Writer
document on 4.1.x and then on 4.2.x you will notice the difference. BTW, the
same quality difference exists if the document with image was saved in 4.1.x
and then reopened in 4.2.x.

LibreOffice
Version: 4.2.5.2
