I don't consider Firebird as embedded DB in LibreOffice as mature. OTOH, the
version of HSQLDB in LibreOffice is not that good either, so <shrug> maybe some
users would prefer Firebird anyway.

If it does not conflict with your use case, I think your best bet is an
*external* database. Any decent one. Can be Firebird (as an _external_
database, e.g. through ODBC driver or some so), can by MySQL, can be
PostgreSQL, ... Avoid sqlite. But since it is external, it means handling an
external server (can be on the same computer) and the .odb as separate file.
