--- Comment #2 from Gerhard Mesenich <[email protected]> ---

Just checked with a new installation (4.3) and a new profile. Grid snap now
works fine here exactly as you say. Your feedback has been very helpful for me;
sorry for my hickup.

Apparently several things got screwed up here in a row:

I am using a non-standard setup with heavily adjusted toolbars and other
settings for an efficient work flow according to my needs; I have then copied
mayor parts of the profile from version to version and used the same one under
winXP and Linux as well. The 'bug' may or may have not been there; it seems to
have gotten into my setup sometime in the past. Then I found similar complaints
somewhere, so I assumed a LO bug without much further investigation. Since all
setups here were used with the same profile, the same behaviour showed up in
all kinds of setups (I have LO running on one Desktop and several
Pen-Tablet-PCs, multiboot).

In addition to that, I have tried to fix the 'issue' by 'experimenting' with
the grid settings. My goal was to get an exact 1mm resolution here. I ended up
with a 0.1 mm setting, which kind of works under high zoom settings :), but was
not the intended result.

Confusing Grid settings:

I was put on the wrong track by the wording on the Grid-setting pane (Options);
which I think is confusing. The wording should probably be changed as follows,
to leave less room for doubt:

Resolution --> Major Grid spacing
Subdivision --> Minor grid spacing (Resolution, granularity or Grid-spacing)

In engineering, the term 'Resolution' is always used for the smallest
granularity of a setting, which is just the opposite of the current meaning in
LibO. In the pop-up help there is no hint about the spacing, which should be
added there. The unclear non-standard wording may very well have been the major
cause of some Grid screw-ups with other users too.

The issue may be closed as resolved, but a clearer wording of the grid settings
should be considered.

[Bug 77818] Draw - Grid looks dull, lacks visual guidance
(will be reopened by me for additional template posts for review)

Now using:
My 2mm Grid template there on a separate grid layer,
Resolution 1mm, Subdivision 1 space, ==> 1mm resolution
LibO grid invisible and exactly matched to the template, working fine.
