Priority: medium
Bug ID: 82706
Assignee: [email protected]
Summary: Other: Feature Request: A proper bibliography tool?
Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
Reporter: [email protected]
Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Version: 4.3.0.4 release
Component: Writer
Product: LibreOffice
In my opinion, the current bibliographic tool of Libreoffice is not up to par
with its competitors, namely Microsoft office. If Libreoffice wants to compete
with MS Office in environments such as colleges and schools, where
bibliographies are a must, it needs to improve its system for doing so.
My problems with the current bibliographic system are as follows
1. It is confusing for the uninitiated
2. There is no tool to insert a bibliography in any format from the
bibliographic database
3. Inserting bibliographic information is not convenient at all.
4. (This is less important) Within LibreWriter itself, the bibliographic entry
editor is just plain unsightly.
My proposed solution
1. Add an interface for inserting bibliographic data per entry (a second window
with text box for each field)
2. A button that compiles the bibliographic information from the documents
database into a formatted bibliography in the popular formats (MLA and so on)
In my opinion, this would help Libreoffice extend into the school environments,
attracting new coders and helping the project advance.
Thank you for your time.
