Priority: medium
Bug ID: 83369
CC: [email protected]
Assignee: [email protected]
Blocks: 83071
Summary: UI: Missing functionality in the in the Styles &
Formatting window
Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
Reporter: [email protected]
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Version: 4.2.5.2 release
Component: Writer
Product: LibreOffice
If you think that the Styles & Formatting window is the entry point that allows
you to access any formatting property than this is not completely true. There
is an important special case you cannot define this way: It is outline
numbering. The problem is that all the ingredients to define outline numbering
seem to be there, so you can get lost for a long time until you find out that
you have to use the Tools -> Outline Numbering window to achieve the intended
effect.
To see the problem, press F11 to get the Styles and Formatting window. There
are buttons for Paragraph and List Styles. You may define a list style with
some outline numbering (press List Styles button, right click some list style,
modify, outline and/or position and options tabs), and use this style in some
paragraph style (press Paragraph Styles button, right click some paragraph
style, modify, select "Outline & Numbering" tab). You can set there the outline
level and the numbering style. Unfortunately in many cases this may not work as
intended.
The expected behaviour is that you can access the Outline Numbering
functionality from the Styles & Formatting window.
This problem could be solved be adding an additional "Outline Numbering" button
to the Styles & Formatting window as shown in attachment 105326 (see bug 83071)
Observed with LibreOffice version 4.2.5.2 and Windows 7.
