By the definition of absolute reference and by every spreadsheet's implementation, formulas with absolute references should always be adjusted when sorting. The fact that it's not sorting correctly with newer versions of Calc is unrelated to the issue of how the sorting of formulas with relative references should be handled. In the case of relative references, they should not be adjusted with the sort. The only time I have ever seen a spreadsheet with the option to adjust formulas, is with Gnumeric.
