Bug 81309 - Sorting should automatically adjust references is an ill conceived
enhancement. It is the cause of serious regressions and incompatibilities that
are tracked in Bug 81633 and its many dupes. It was backported to the Stable
4.2 branch in commit

Enhancements should not be backported to stable releases and the option to
disable it cannot be backported, since there is UI freeze in 4.2. Therefore,
we should revert this commit before 4.2.7 is released to the public.
