Bug ID: 85649
Summary: Insert -> File should detect file type, suggestions
for improvement
Product: LibreOffice
Version: unspecified
Hardware: Other
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Libreoffice
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
If you click Insert -> File, several things can happen:
* You are lucky. Text is imported from a file (this is the intended use case, I
believe).
* You are semi-lucky. LibreOffice does not freeze and it reports an error:
"File cannot be loaded". The only option you have is clicking OK here.
* You are unlucky. LibreOffice freezes for a long time (this can happen with
big files). Actually you have to kill the process.
It should not try to import EXE, ZIP or JAR files. Alternatively, a hyperlink
can be created to the resource instead of embedding it.
Also, this option should do the same as Insert -> Image if you select an image
file.
