Hmm... instead of formatting some of the lines to be white, let's turn off the
grid and just format all of the *other* lines to be black:

1) Open the 'test file' (attachment 109440)
2) Disable printing the grid (Format -> Page -> Sheet -> Print -> Grid 
   --> make sure this is unchecked
3) CTRL-A to select all
4) For this spreadsheet, deselect the region A2:E9
   --> CTRL-click on A2, then SHIFT-click on E9
5) Format -> Cells -> Borders -> Line Arrangement -> Default
6) Select 'Set Outer Border and all Inner Lines'
7) Click the 'OK' button

Verify the result with Page Preview (CTRL-SHIFT-O).
