The problem is that it does not "inherit" what was there previously. I should
be able to keep my settings after I change a style.  Only the parts that are
different in the style should be changes, not a global change requiring me to
have to go back and reset to the behaviors I want.

I really wish you'd come up with a way to rid a document completely of “add
space between paragraphs of the same style”.  That would solve the issue. 
Maybe make it a check box in auto correct
