this is the relevant element in ODF 1.2:

 "17.20 <style:list-level-label-alignment>
  The <style:list-level-label-alignment> element specifies the position and
  spacing of a list label and its list item."

... and it turns out this element doesn't exist in ODF 1.1

in particular there is a tab after the list label
(text:label-followed-by="listtab")
and the position of the tab stop is taken from the paragraph style
where the list is applied, not from the list style.

so i guess we can't do better than that, not in general.
