When pasting a footnote you could internally insert the reference and superscript the text. Makes sense for usability POV because the normal incrementing is not broken in this way. But in my 4.3 installation this reference is not updated if I add another footnote before the referenced (e.g."He heard quiet steps1 behind him2. That didn't bode1 well." The last 1 is a (working) link to footnote 2). Update fields (F9) does not help, page preview is the same. And when I remove the footnote its reference needs to be cleared. Otherwise I get an "Error: Reference source not found".
