I am coming from a Windows environment and downloaded and installed Debian last August (2014) along with all the accompanying software. I wrongly assumed that I would receive the latest version of Libre Office too. Following your advice I checked the Help section of Writer and it directed me to go to help section and enable automatic or manual update. Unfortunately, there is no such option at the place suggested. I have been updating all the updates suggested every other day by the system and again wrongly assumed that all software would also be updated automatically. Since I do not have an automatic or manual update option in this verion of LibreOffice I shall download it manually from the LibreOffice website and and post the result.
