Word 2003 Styles and Formatting Panel
I really would like to see an option to select all instances of a particular
formatting style from the Styles And Formatting panel. An equivalent function
is present in MS Word (see attachment).
This option automatically highlights all text in a document with that style.
It has several advantages:
1. If you double click on another style after selecting all instances, this new
style will apply to all those instances. This makes it an easy way to quickly
restyle a document based on a particular template.
I know you can also do this via the Find and Replace dialog, but a) this dialog
doesn't have previews of styles and b) it takes a lot more time for complex
documents.
2. It's way easier to find particular instances of a style in a text. Just
select this option and page up/down your document.
3. This makes it also faster to check if paragraphs in a large document have
the right styles attached. Remember how many paper you spilled by sending large
print jobs, only to discover afterwards that you had the wrong styles applied
to certain paragraphs. I know I did ;-(
BTW: Word's menu is basically laid out like this:
1. Update %style% to Match Selection
2. Modify...
---
3. Select All %% Instance(s)
4. Clear Formatting of %% Instance(s)
5. Delete %style%
