Summary: SIDEBAR: Inconsistent resizing behaviour in the
sidebar
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 4.2.7.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium

Sidebar screenshot
Inconsistent resizing behaviour in the sidebar.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Libreoffice Writer and make sure the sidebar is enabled.
2. Try to reduce the size of the sidebar when the "Properties" tab is selected.
3. Try to reduce the size of the sidebar when the "Styles and Formatting",
"Gallery" and "Navigator" tabs are selected.
Current Behaviour:
When the "Properties" tab in the sidebar is selected, the sidebar will only
reduce in size to a certain point to allow all elements to be visible. When
reducing the size of the sidebar when the other tabs are selected, the sidebar
will reduce to nothing (there is no minimum size in these tabs).
Expected Behaviour:
The sidebar should either
1. Reduce only so much to allow all elements to be visible (as per the current
"Properties" tab) or
2. Reduce freely as much as the user may want (even allowing a reduction in
size to nothing).
One thing to note is that if the user reduces the sidebar without limits, some
elements may not be visible and the user may not be aware of them.
I have attached a screenshot to illustrate the problem. Note that this
inconsistency is present in Calc, Impress and Draw as well.
Tested with the following setups:
LibreOffice 4.2.7.2 from the Ubuntu 14.04 repo
LibreOffice 4.4.1.2 from the Ubuntu 15.04 repo
LibreOffice Version: 4.5.0.0.alpha0+
