As I am an advanced IT user with considerable experience of using different software programs, including different office suites over many years, I can only conclude the reason I hadn't seen it before, is because it is almost always greyed out and unavailable. This actually re-enforces the "sod's law" comment I made earlier, in that it was only after posting my original bug query, that I spotted the Undo button.
