We are editing sensitive data, and we chose to keep it on encrypted storage to keep it private. The LO user profiles currently reside on the server (NFS-mounted home). First there is the fact that these thumbnails indeed added some considerable server load. It looks like every time a new thumbnail is created, the complete file is read from the server and written back, and with each file being around 2-3MB this adds up quickly with 100+ users. But more important, we are obliged to make sure that these profiles do not contain any sensitive data. We're not talking about "shoulder surfing", we're talking about deliberate attacks.
