Bug ID: 92855
Summary: Create indexes and tables for selected ranges of the
taxt
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 4.4.4.3 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
When we create an alphabetical Index or a TOC there are two ways to select a
text range: "Chapter" and "Document". This has severe limitations for the
creation of advanced document setups. E.g.:
-a TOC can refer to a chapter or to an entire document, so if it is in the
front matter (i.e. the latin-numbered pages that are outside any specific
chapter) it can only index the entire text. To index a specific chapter it
should be placed after heading 1. This is a shortcoming for publication
purposes as the TOC would then have to be manually moved to the Front matter in
the pdf.
-an alphabetical index also indexes the front matter pages (latin numeral
pages) which, according to various style guides, should not be indexed. One
should delete them, create the indexes and re-paste them to get it right.
It would be good to have a fine-grained selection for ranges of the text to be
indexed (e.g. per section or per chapter).
