I strongly disagree, I see at least 2 issues if backup files are not discarded:
1/ privacy issue: what do you think if a copy of your discarded files is
conserved without you know / remember that?

2/ spamming issue: not discarded backup files will fill your HD and make your
LO user profile bigger each day and becoming harder to backup (Ok, I know,
nobody make backups...).

We already have 1/ and 2/ with backup files associated with files manually
discarded by the user. I think we should not duplicate this hidden problems.

I think it is the problem of the user to think before doing something
irreversible.

Closing as NotABug.
