Oddly, while Windows does seem to accept the direction to list LO as the default for the documents it handles, including MS Office formats like .doc and .xls, when you review the list of defaults, Windows 10 refused to actually list Libre Office as the default for those MS office formats - it lists the default as "unknown program."
