They are also formatted as text @. Is possible to convert into numbers, select the data, then Menu/Data/Text to columns, click on the column head and select type as US English. Calc is very strict in accept text as number in formulas, and only try to convert text to values in direct references, but none in a range as used in a SUM() function. In this case sigma doesn't work because there are not values to sum. Doing the conversion s mentioned it works as expected.
