All machines use Kubuntu 12.04.5 with the latest updates. LibreOffice 5 came with one of these updates. Then we found one machine where Mailmerge worked. That perplexed us. We tried to find out the difference between that one machine and the others, but without success. So, we finally uninstalled LibreOffice completely and reinstalled it manually on all machines.
