I use LibreOffice as *most* users use it, if this causes a problem, it's not the user's fault. As for mixing direct formatting and styles - I obviously try to minimize that (which is more than most users do as styles are not an obvious concept for most people). I suspect what happened was that the direct formatting was *inherited* from a previous section and thus caused the problem. This goes back to the other bug that is already confirmed by UX about new lines inheriting direct formatting from previous lines in a wacky way that creates lots of headaches.
