            Bug ID: 94126
Summary: image/picture formatting failure when file is
re-opened; affecting: image format wrap size crop
                    contour anchor position type
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 5.0.1.2 release
          Hardware: Other
                OS: Windows (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: major
          Priority: high
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

different wrap modes:
1.) wrap left based on contour and re-sizing comes back with text behind the
re-sized picture; 'contour' is still checked; merely opening the format
dialogue and closing without any changes restores the original/correct wrap
formatting; the positioning is changed with 'anchor' becoming 'to character'
from 'to paragraph'; 'position:horizontal' becomes 'from left' 'by' something
'paragraph area' from 'right' 'by' nothing 'to' 'right paragraph border' (NOTE:
both of these settings do the same thing, but changing them is confusing to
users); 'position:vertical' becomes 'from top' 'by' NNN 'to' 'margin' from
'from top' 'by' NNN 'to' 'paragraph text area' (NOTE: the same as for
'horizontal')
2.) wrap left based on image with cropping and re-sizing comes back with a
different, much smaller crop and the re-sizing is applied to the wrong crop
which makes it wrong for the image; the 'keep scale' is checked

all the options might make sense to a programmer, but users want only two
things:
1.) crop the original
2.) output the cropped image to some size

everything else in that dialogue is just confusing.

using the small cropping image in the dialogue is pointless since the image is
too small to be of value and is not tied into the scaling. users are forced to
keep opening and closing the dialogue to actually see the result.

having a "preview" mode such as is nearly universally found in image
manipulation software would correct these libreoffice faults/short-comings.

it is nice to know image size in whatever (it seems) unit chosen for the ruler
or the overall setting, but image manipulation is more pixel-based and should
either be a user-selectable option or displayed along with measurement units as
the default.

of course, any failure to persist settings that results in an alteration of how
the image is displayed makes libreoffice un-usable!
