I believe the bug is related to using an xorg screen dpi > the 96 dpi default,
because I experienced the same behavior in older versions of OpenOffice when
using dpi > 96.  I was happy when that bug finally got fixed, but now it's back
again.  I don't think anybody does any QA testing on higher than average res
monitors (set up properly to actually use their higher dpi) before releases.

You could confirm this by running:

xdpyinfo |grep resolution

and checking to see if your resolution is set to something other then 96 dpi.
