To the question of the dictionary being installed:
1. I'm not sure how I could have done an installation without the dictionary
unless I set out to deliberately do so.
2. If the dictionary was not installed then other words would also have been
missed.  To that, consider Writer does correctly flags four words with the
following "In a  seperate piture we find the stalion gazing over the waterfal."
Like install, stallion and waterfal are incorrect due to a dropped "l".

To the comment of a synonym offering for "install". 
A quick check for the word instal finds some mention of it "chiefly British
variant of install". With this in mind, I tried colour and labour - both of
which were flagged for bad spelling, as expected in US English.
