Steps:
1) Open Writer
2) Liberation Serif is shown in the font name drop down
3) Open it up and its possible it wont be selected and it will select a
recently selected font at the top
4) If it does select Liberation Serif, select Arial
5) Click undo
6) Open up the font list and Liberation Serif wont be selected
