Writer supports flat format .fodt for documents, which provides a VCS-friendly
version of document
(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Libreoffice_and_subversion).
Since Base documents usually contain macros and forms, it would be very
convenient to control them using a VCS.
Unlike Writer, Base also contains databases, which, however, could be
represented as base64 encoded segments in the flat database format.
