The "Replace" function is broken when it involves removing ends of paragraphs.
Search field: $
Replace field: empty
Hit replace repeatedly and you'll see only half line breaks removed,
alternatively. The function misses one out of two line breaks. Maybe there's a
problem in cursor placement after a line break is removed.
The "replace all" function works as expected.
