the lines are less sharp because they are now painted
via the drawing layer, which automatically does anti-aliasing.

if you don't like anti-aliasing, then you can turn it off
in Tools->Options->LibreOffice->View, uncheck "Use Anti-Aliasing".

the ugly corners with gaps are a duplicate of 
bug 38635, already fixed for LibreOffice 3.5.3.

@tbehrens:
please check if you see anything wrong with the anti-aliased
drawing and resolve as appropriate.
