I've been doing some additional experimenting. I've found that I get different
results with simple numbering done with the numbering styles, simple numbering
done directly through the toolbar and outline numbering.

I've found that if I do simple numbering through the toolbar, it *does* restart
at 1 after a new heading (which is what I want). But, if I do simple numbering
through numbering styles, it does *not* restart after a new heading.

Obviously, I need more education in the many, many different ways LO can do
numbering. I'll concede that my lack of knowledge does not necessarily mean
that there's a bug here.

But, I will still contend that this is one area where LaTeX gets it so much
cleaner and easier. It just works, especially if I use the LyX front end. With
LyX, I get the desired results quickly and without fanfare. With LO, I have to
first educate myself on *at least* three different methods of numbering text
and then figure out which one will achieve the desired result.
