The problem is still present in 5.1.0.2, for the PDF password entry. However
the CONFIRM password field does allow the use of special characters. So whereas
only ace is valid  in the password entry field, aceáçé is valid in the password
confirmation field. The help entry includes the text 

"Contains a mix of lower-case and upper-case letters, numbers, and special
characters." which appears to confirm that it is a bug.
