Since LO 4.3 (see bibisect below), it is no longer possible to hide some levels
for columns: the drop-menu menu (activated by clicking on the grey cell
containing the name of the variable) has been removed. Yet, the equivalent menu
for rows is still present. This looks like an oversight to me.

What's weird is that the grey cell for columns, which previously contained the
name of the variable (in the attached file, var2, just like var1 for rows), has
disappeared. It has been replaced with a weird "Data" cell. Indeed, a phantom
variable called "Data" also appears when creating the Pivot table. This is very
annoying, as the name of the variable is a useful information, and this
mysterious "Data" entry is confusing.

For comparison, latest versions of MS Excel include menus for both rows and
columns (see screenshot in next comment). This makes it hard for me to argue
for the use of recent LO versions instead of Excel.
