Both failed with the same error msg, at seemingly the same point in the install process, and both download files were the same length (unfortunately, I did not do a binary cmp of them). As may be, a few hours ago I tried another download using Chrome again. Same length file, but this time the installation completed with no problems. I dunno if anything was changed at the LibreOffice site, but nothing was changed on my end. In any case, I consider this bug closed (but don't see an obvious way for me to mark it as such).
